3 Tips to Grow Your Blog from The Happy Housewife

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, we had a great lunch with Toni who writes The Happy Housewife. Toni’s blog was launched early last year, and has grown very quickly.  All while raising 7 kids!  ”How do you do it?” we asked.  ”I don’t sleep much” she responded.

Toni gave us three specific tips for how she was able to grow her blog so quickly, and we wanted to share them with our users:

1. Meme’s -  Toni started out by participating in all the memes around the blogosphere.  ”Works for Me Wednesday” started by our friend Kristen at We are That Family was one specific meme she mentioned.  She made particular note that you can’t be a meme leach, meaning you need to visit lots of other blogs in the meme as well.
2. Conferences – The next jump in traffic Toni saw was when she started attending blog conferences and networking in real life.  If you are not up on the conference scene, of course there is BlogHer, but there are lots of other smaller conferences as well including Blissdom, Sitscation (our friend Cassy is putting this on), and others.
3. Twitter- Toni said her largest traffic increase came when she started using Twitter.  Just start tweeting in-between your blog posts and feed your tweets to your blog.

If  Toni could give a 4th tip she would probably say move your  blog to WordPress- especially if you want to show up in Google searches.  This is due to the better Search-Engine-Optimization (SEO) that WordPress provides.
