How to Add a Blog Frog Widget to WordPress

by Rustin on May 2, 2009

This post explains how to install Blog Frog widgets on a WordPress.org blog.  Note that there are two types of WordPress blogs:  Wordpress.COM blogs and WordPress.ORG  blogs installed on a custom domain.   If your blog URL ends with .wordpress.com you are on WordPress.COM blog.  Unfortunately WordPress.com does not allow any 3rd party widgets, thus TheBlogFrog widgets do not work on WordPress.com blogs.

If you have a “WordPress.ORG” blog on a custom domain, install your BlogFrog widget by following these simple steps.  I took lots of pictures for help along the way:

1.  Log into TheBlogFrog.  Scroll down on your home page and make sure your correct blog address is listed.  If it is not correct, click “Edit Pages” and enter your correct blog address.

2.  Click the Widgets tab and find the widget you want to install.  Select your color and any other options, then scroll down to where it gives you the code for the widget.  Click the code, then press CONTROL+A to select all the code, then press CONTROL+C to copy the code to your computers clipboard.

3.  Now we’re ready to insert the code into your blog.  Go to your blog and find the login button (just like you are going to write a new post).  When you get to your WordPress dashboard, click the “Appearance” link, the click “Widgets”.

4.  You should now see a list of your installed widgets.  We want to paste the code into a “Text Widget” so find where it says “Text” Under available widgets and click Add.

6.  This should expand the widget for editing.  There are two text sections.  The upper section is for the title of the widget, the bottom section is for the body or code of the widget.  You can add a title if you want, or leave it blank.  Paste the code from your clipboard into the bottom text section by clicking the text section and pressing CTRL+V.  Press Save Changes when you are done.  It should look similar to this:

7.  You can now reposition the widget in your sidebar by dragging it up or down.  Make sure to press “Save Changes” after you reposition things.  You’re done!  If you view your blog your widget should appear!  Note: if it looks funny there have been some troubles with WordPress overriding TheBlogFrog’s style sheet.  Please email us at custserv@theblogfrog.com if this is happening to you and we’ll check it out.  Please comment on how we can improve this article, we’ve only installed these widgets on our own blog and we know each can be a little different.  Thanks!

Hi,
Received an email promo from you today about new or updated widgets and thought I would try it again for wordpress as it didn’t work before….doesn’t work now either. Seems to delete all the script and web addy when I save. Below is what appears if I leave it on the blog sidebar. Hope you get it fixed soon!
Thanks

Long time lurker, thought I would say hello! I really dont post much but thanks for the good times I have here. Love this place..

When I was hurt in that motorcycle accident my life would be changed forever. Unfortunately that driver had no car insurance and I was going to be in pain for ever.

This was not time for me to start and guess what to do. I had to find a good personal injury attorney to help me get what I needed. After all, my family was counting on me.

How awful was it? I has bedridden for 5 months, I had to have constant care and my medical bills went through the roof!

Luckily, I found a good referral site to help me.

I will post more later this year to tell you more about what I have been going through.
